Field work! And oranges the size of pumpkins!!
Spontaneous drive to Huntington Beach at 11am last night with my 3 favorite boys in Cali. :)
This is all Science PhD students… nobody got time for that haha.
Hiked to the UCR “C”
I am missing New York, but California is a pretty awesome place to live, apart from the tarantulas, black widows, and unbearable heat. No, but seriously I think I am finding my place. I have a little awesome group of other PhD students that I have really bonded with and we have been hanging out, I have seen things I have never seen before, I am already learning so much, and the boys are pretty good kissers.
I am excited to meet even more new friends and really just keep the good time and positivity going.
First day in the green house at UCR. I inoculated a lemon tree! This place is so cool.
Struggle, struggle, struggle… my life has so many ups and downs. I do believe that there is a plan for me and that everything will work out in the end, but this long journey to my unknown future is wearing me thin. I am hunted by so 80,000 dollars in student loans. I thought that I work be able to defer my loan payments of over 750 dollars a month while I was in my PhD program for the next 4-5 years. Turns out my Undergrad debt can only be deferred for a max of 2 years. After that I will some how have to start paying the crazy payments even though I will be living off a tiny stipend that just covers my current bills. So, my plan is to win the lottery some time between now and July 2016.
On a different note… I extracted my plant RNA and DNA for the first time in the lab today!!! So awesome! I already love the people in my first lab rotation!
I am officially living in California. This has been a very scary and exciting week. Tomorrow will be my first day at UCR, starting with a welcome meeting and then meeting with my first possible mentor’s lab. I cannot wait to see where all of this leads! I hope that I do not get lost on campus. Wish me luck!!
Today is my last full day in New York before I make the 4 to 5 day Journey to California. I am very excited for this new chapter in my life, but also terrified. I will be leaving everything I have ever known behind and just moving to the other side of the country, it’s so scary. I will be blogging my Road trip across the country! Going through 12 states. Currently packing all of my belongs and trying to fit them into my tiny car. This time next week I will be living in California!!
